Huckleberry's Closing Down Sale! Final Blog!

On Friday 30th September 2022 the Huckleberry's Iconic menswear business will close its doors for the last time as I will take early retirement. I opened the shop way back in 1994 in Farmers Fold in the centre of a then bustling town in Wolverhampton. The first few years were spent acquiring the best middle market fashion brands such as Yves Saint Lauren, Full Circle, Sonnetti, Urban Stone French Connection and new up and coming brands like Criminal Clothing which we sold exclusively. When my partner in the business left I decided to change the image of the shop for a more niche market catering for an older customer and introduced brands like Lambretta clothing, Merc London, Fred Perry, Relco London and Ben Sherman. I was the first designated retro style "Mod Shop" outside of London and this attracted Mods, Skinheads and Rude boys not only locally but from all over the UK. Here I enjoyed many years of success and was proud to get national recognition for my efforts in the national press and T.V. I served the local community as well as stars from the stage and screen. Many of the local customers have become friends over the years and followed me when I closed the Wolverhampton shop and moved down the road to Chapel Ash. There I introduced more exclusive brands like Gabicci and Art Gallery London. After three years there I took the unusual step to move the business to a showroom at my home address. This again was another first in the country and I have enjoyed a further three years serving customers by appointment only and offering a home delivery service, another first. This enabled me to spend more time on other interests and I have enjoyed the freedom of being semi retied.
Competitors have come and gone, many have tried to copy, but I can honestly say, none have been the first to innovate or done it with the passion that I have. I have had Mod nights, done Charity gigs, I've been a singer in a Mod band, it's been a blast!
So, after 28 years of hard work I feel now is the time to move on to a new chapter in my life and take on new challenges. I would like to sincerely thank all of my customers, friends and family for their support over the years. It has been the best job I could have ever hoped for and I have loved every minute of it. This is not the end but a new beginning and I hope to see you all soon.
